About the Author

Martin Link graduated from the University of Arizona in 1958 and has devoted his life experiences to the archaeology and history of our Southwest. His numerous publications include Navajo: A Century of Progress, 1868-1968, The Goat in the Rug, and Navajo Country Pioneers. For 18 years he was the publisher of The Indian Trader newspaper. Martin lives in Gallup, New Mexico. Larry Lindahl is an award-winning photographer whose work was exhibited by the Smithsonian Institution and is in the permanent collection at Petrified Forest National Park. His photography has appeared in the books Arizona Kicks on Route 66, A Ranching Legacy, and Grand Canyon: The Vault of Heaven, and in magazines such as Arizona Highways, Outdoor Photographer, America Journal, and Glamour. Lindahl wrote and photographed Secret Sedona: Sacred Moments in the Landscapes. He lives in Sedona, Arizona.

Great book! My mother worked at the Trading Post on the cover and I spent a lot of time there as a child. The pics in the book are wonderful and gives me more ideas of places to visit and take out-of-town guests.

Love love this book!I am proud to be from New Mexico and have an addiction to reading anything about New Mexico and especially about route 66 in New Mexico.This book does a great job in capturing one of New Mexico's many wonderful aspects, all the fabulously kooky and fantastic things along its Route 66. I have had a fascination with New Mexico's route 66 for the last 7 years and this book has added to my excitement and has encourage me to get back on the road and explore more of New Mexico's mother road.I own a small vintage budget motel along route 66 and I have put this book in every room. A lot of guest are route 66 enthusiasts and this book has visually captured a lot of authentic NM yester years.Thanks for encouraging us to keep traveling route 66 and lets get on the road!!

There have been many books written over the years about Route 66. If you want to read up about the past and recent history, the author has done a thorough job in telling a very involved story about this fabled road. I enjoyed learning about the Mother Road as it passed East to West through New Mexico. Larry Lindahl did an amazing job with his choices in Photos to enhance the story. I have my favorites images that show the depth of what living off Route 66 is all about. The Native American events- the people and their lives in Photographs is beautifully intermingles with the Narrative.Should be on everyone's Holiday List as a Must Get! This book knocks it outta the Park.

The photography in this book is amazing; I love the clarity and colorful images because they capure the essence and flavor of everything that is New Mexico.

The author takes you on a really enjoyable road trip through a beautiful part of the country. And the dazzling photography makes you want to hop in your car and go right now!
